๐ŸŽฅ ATHENA (2022)

A FILM BY ROMAIN GAVRAS

Overview -

Athena is a French movie which portraits the revolt and revolutionary people's movement which was happened in France, some Extremists has created chaos, Karim - the young man led the extremists group called - ATHENA. Luckily it's not based on real incidents, but it's based on some collective movements occurred in a particular community in France. Idir, the younger brother of Karim and Abdel, while Abdel is a cop and his duty and ideologies are just opposite of Karim. Abdel didn't tolerate the deeds of Karim and his perspectives. He tried to oppose him and guide him to the right path. But he was a young blood and highly emotional and aggressive person. Athena is telling what's the end of the chaos and how to control the insecure situations.

Positives -

The first 10 minutes is a single shot sequence, it was really shows the quality of the film making and it was an intense shot which is breathtaking experience for me. I really attached to the both of the characters like Abdel and Karim. The emotions, aggression, and frustration are purely conveyed to the audience. In the second half, there are some highly haunting and sensitive scenes of Abdel, lengthy close-up shot which is focusing on the face of Abdel for expressing his emotions was just mind disturbing. The actor was exceptionally done the character in deep. We can empathize his situation and difficult times he was going on. The climax is just another level which we can't predict and expect such a climax. The director should be appreciated for the making quality of the movie and also the actors did it well.

Negatives -

I couldn't find any negative impact on the movie but one thing I noticed that they're not pointing out the Muslim Community in the sake of terrorist activities. They're not justified and blamed those movements and not showing any judgements against the community.

Opinion -

Athena is an intense emotional ride which creates some disturbances through the storytelling and the characters are always remembered in our mind. Because each of the characters have their own identities and perceptions. Sometimes we can't accept things which portraits in the film like the use of certain community as the extremists but they're not harassed or shows any kind of negative arguments towards the community. If you are interested in serious stories regarding politics and the different political perspectives of the youth, then you should experience this film.
