A Film by Apoorv Singh Karki

Don't underestimate the power of a common man!

Overview -

Inspired by real-life incidents, this is the story a Sessions Court lawyer in Jodhpur, who fights a five-year-long battle to bring justice to a minor girl sexually assaulted by a powerful godman.

The film is a biopic on a humble lawyer from Rajasthan, Advocate PC Solanki, who single-handedly brought justice to the minor girl under the POCSO Act in the much-publicised self-styled godman's sexual assault case. While lawyers in courtroom dramas are portrayed to be larger-than-life, Advocate PC Solanki (Manoj Bajpayee, ) is a simple man living with his mother and son in Jodhpur. He takes on his contemporary defence attorney (Vipin Sharma) with great confidence, but it’s endearing to see him starstruck and nervous when he faces colossal names from the legal world during the court proceedings. Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai is a well-researched story where the viewer will be filled with admiration at the due diligence on the public prosecutor Solanki’s part, especially in proving that the survivor Nu (Adrija) is a minor and that the case must be tried under the POCSO Act no matter what, or other legal nitty-gritty.

Positives and Negatives

Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai boasts of outstanding performances, solo Act is filled with exceptional performances, be it Adrija, Jaihind Kumar, and Durga Sharma portraying Nu's helpless yet supportive parents, or Vipin Sharma as the defense lawyer who impressively interrogates Nu and feels ashamed to delve into the details of her crime. However, the true star of the film is undoubtedly Manoj Bajpayee. He displays remarkable skill in adapting his mannerisms while engaging with various characters - Nu, her parents, his mother, his son, the judges, the lawyers he admires, and his assistant. He effortlessly transitions between determination, fear, emotion, awe, and outrage, capturing every subtlety perfectly. He particularly shines in the scene where he breaks down, finding solace in his mother's comfort as they recite a poem together, and during his closing statement. Recognizing the nation's religious obsession, he cleverly avoids explaining why Baba deserves punishment from a human or legal standpoint, instead utilizing a language they can relate to. He draws a parallel to the story of Lord Shiva refusing to forgive his ardent devotee, Ravan, delivering a brilliant touch. As a courtroom drama film, I couldn't find any flaws; the director skillfully justified the genre of the movie.

The movie is an absolute must-watch for its exceptional storytelling, gripping drama, and impactful dialogues. However, the true highlight is Manoj Bajpayee's exceptional performance, which is truly extraordinary. Advocate PC Solanki will undoubtedly win your support and admiration. Furthermore, the film successfully conveys and addresses a socially significant issue in today's Indian society. It comes highly recommended and is incredibly relevant, making it a film that should not be overlooked.
