Overview
Exhuma is a 2024 South Korean supernatural horror film written and directed by Jang Jae-hyun, and starring the Legendary actor Choi Min-sik in the main lead, with Kim Go-eun, Yoo Hae-jin and Lee Do-hyun as supporting roles. The film explores the mystery and strange elements, and follows the process of excavating an ominous grave, which unleashes dreadful consequences buried underneath.
I saw a Korean film after a long time because of the extraordinary reviews about the movie. Especially Horror is one of my favourite genres. The film actually released in India today only (May 3). But it's released many more countries earlier and completed its theatrical run and it's HD prints are out now. I'm also used to watch this online only. Whatever, after a long time I got an awesome horror cinematic experience. I seen Many Hollywood horror movies recently but none of them are not excited me like this. Those Excitement Factors are explained below.
Positives
Screenplay and Storyline
One of the most and exciting element is it's screenplay which was excellently written by the director. The film consists different aspects about a death like Excavating graveyards, studying about the death and the individual, different cultural rituals, family backgrounds, etc. Even the entire team was done a broad research regarding the Cultural aspects of the specific community which was portrayed in the movie.
Mind-blowing Making and Technical Support
The film has a length of 2hr and 15min, usually horror films are short and maximum length of one and half hours only. But this movie excelling in each and every shots because of the extraordinary making and storytelling. The Cinematography of Lee Mo-gae and background score of Kim Tae-seong was ultimately great. The Make-up, production design and the art departments are also done a great job. Every departments are damn good. The atmosphere, the setting of the background and the revealing of the story was awesome.
Awesome Performances
Choi Min-sik - this man is the backbone of the film. His usual pattern of performance but nothing less or nothing more. Truly he is a legend and he was already proven it. In this film, we can experience his another level of performance. Also the supporting cast - Kim Go-eun, Yoo Hae-jin and Lee Do-hyun - everyone are amazingly done their roles very well.
Negative
The one and only Negative I felt about this film was that they are not release the English Version. Whenever the English Audio will release I will definitely re-watch this ultimate terror. No other negatives found.
My Opinion
Overall "Exhuma" is a great watch for Horror Cinephiles. After a long time I completely satisfied after watching a Horror Drama. Korean Movies are set-up a benchmark in World Cinema and now it's rewriting the History of The Cinema and the Quality of Audience.
