OBSESSION (2026)
A Film by Curry Barker
OVERVIEW ๐
The story follows Bear, a lonely young man whose desperate wish for Love turns into a Nightmare when Affection transforms into Frightening "Obsession."
The film explores the dangerous consequences of Human Desire through a premise that feels deceptively simple but unfolds into something psychologically unsettling.
POSITIVES ๐
Excellent Execution and Engaging Making ๐ฅ๐
Curry Barker, the young Youtuber, who is the Master Craftsman of this Film. His Writing and Direction was Absolutely Peak. As both Writer and Director, he handles the Emotional Arc of the story with Surprising Maturity, never allowing the Horror Elements to overshadow the Emotional pain and loneliness at the center of the narrative.
Instead of relying solely on jump scares, Barker builds tension through character psychology and uncomfortable emotional intimacy. The screenplay cleverly examines toxic attachment, insecurity, and loneliness, making Obsession feel more meaningful than a standard supernatural horror film. Barker also served as editor, and this creative control gives the movie a distinct rhythm and consistency in tone.
Casting and Performances ๐๐
The performances play a Major role in Elevating the film. Michael Johnston delivers a Compelling Performance as Bear, capturing vulnerability, awkwardness, and emotional desperation without making the character completely unlikable. Meanwhile, Inde Navarrette shines as Nikki, bringing complexity to a role that could have easily become One-dimensional. Her Gradual Transformation from ordinary affection to unsettling Obsession becomes one of the film’s strongest dramatic pillars. Supporting actors like Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless also Contribute Effectively to the Atmosphere.
Top Quality Technical Team ๐❤๐ฅ
Technically, Obsession deserves significant appreciation. Cinematographer Taylor Clemons crafts a visual language that quietly intensifies the film’s psychological unease. The camera work shifts subtly between intimacy and discomfort, using framing and lighting to reflect Bear’s emotional instability. Even on a relatively modest budget, the visuals never feel cheap or uninspired. Production designer Vivian Gray deserves recognition for building environments that feel ordinary yet Strangely Haunting, helping the Supernatural Elements emerge Naturally rather than Artificially.
The Background Score by composer Rock Burwell is another major asset. Instead of Overpowering scenes, the music quietly amplifies discomfort and Emotional confusion, Enhancing Suspense while preserving the film’s Emotional Core. The Editing, again handled by Barker himself, deserves praise for maintaining tension without exhausting the audience. The pacing occasionally slows in the middle act, but it ultimately benefits the emotional payoff and horror escalation.
NEGATIVES ๐
I'm addressing an issue not about the movie but related to the Censor Board. Those Senseless guys are Cropped some of the major scenes and sequences and it was partially spoiled the Complete Cinematic Experience.
FINAL VERDICT ๐ฟ
OBSESSION is A Highly Seat Edge Engaging Film for People who Enjoy Drama and Psychological Thrillers. It's a Worth Watching for its Emotional Depth, Suspenseful Moments and Character driven Storytelling. Also remind you that it is an A Rated Film. So watch it without kids.
